Hi, I’m Phoebe Cutter, an engineering student with a passion for solving complex problems and exploring uncharted depths—both literally and figuratively! Growing up in Falmouth, MA, near the ocean, I developed a deep appreciation for marine life and technology. While my academic path began in biomedical engineering, my fascination with underwater vehicles, first sparked in seventh grade, inspired me to pursue mechanical engineering as well. I’ve always been driven by curiosity, creativity, and a desire to make a tangible impact, whether in advancing ocean exploration or improving health-focused technology.
I’m currently a junior at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), where I’m double-majoring in biomedical and mechanical engineering. WPI’s project-based curriculum has allowed me to tackle real-world challenges, from designing innovative patent pending women’s health devices to contributing to marine research in Hong Kong. My hands-on experience with research, prototyping, and testing has sharpened both my technical skills and my ability to collaborate in diverse teams. Through coursework and independent projects, I’ve developed expertise in CAD, material testing, and systems design, all of which align with my interdisciplinary interests.
I bring a well-rounded set of skills and qualities that make me a versatile and effective engineer. As a natural problem-solver, I approach challenges with creativity and determination, whether it’s designing mechanical systems, optimizing material performance, or troubleshooting technical issues. I have hands-on experience with tools like CAD and MATLAB and excel in mechanical design and materials testing. As a hardworking team player, I combine excellent communication and writing skills to collaborate effectively, articulate ideas clearly, and document my work thoroughly. My adaptability and drive to continuously learn enable me to tackle any task or challenge with confidence, making me a valuable contributor to any project or team.
My ultimate goal is to combine my engineering expertise with my lifelong passion for the ocean to develop technologies that push the boundaries of underwater exploration and conservation. From an early age, I’ve been captivated by the mysteries of the deep sea and the innovative tools used to uncover them, such as ROVs and AUVs. I hope to contribute to projects that enhance our ability to explore and understand the ocean, whether it’s through designing advanced underwater vehicles, solving challenges in marine robotics, or supporting sustainable ocean practices. By dedicating my career to this field, I aim to fuel discoveries that inspire others to appreciate and protect the vast, uncharted world beneath the waves.
